The Econet 3G modem enables you to connect to the world on the go through the use of a light USB dongle.  It is a plug and play device in that it automatically installs the software and all you need to do is click ‘Connect’ to get you going.  There are times when this might not happen, the solution is usually simple and this will save you a trip to the Econet service center.  Try the solutions below:
  • Uninstall and reinstall the software and then reboot or restart the machine
  • Remove the simcard from the dongle, place it in your mobile phone (which has internet settings) and switch it on.  Test to see if the internet is connecting on your mobile phone.  After that restore it into the dongle and try again
  • Check to see of you have data bundles by pressing *141# on the interface on your computer

For those of you who use Econet Broadband with non Econet dongle, we have a solution for you:

  • First of all single out whether the connection problem lies with the data line or the modem. For the data line, kindly insert the data card in a handset and attempt to browse.  If you are able to browse this means problem lies with the modem.  In that case kindly:
  • Verify whether you have inbuilt software on the modem that can be reinstalled.  If yes, follow the steps below:
  • Uninstall and reinstall the software
  • Create a New Profile
  • Go to ‘Settings’, ‘Access Point Settings’ and enter the APN:
  • Select ‘Static’ and not ‘Dynamic’
  • Enter the ‘Dial Up/ Access number’ *99#
  • On ‘Authentication’ select ‘PAP and not ‘Chap’
  • Under ‘Network Settings’ select ‘GSM Preferred or ‘GSM only’
  • On the ‘Band’ select ‘All
  • Under ‘Manual Network Selection’ select ‘Econet 2G
  • Save the settings and then reboot or restart.
