Buddie Zone offers a menu of exciting value added services which are available to all of our Econet pre-paid subscribers and Call Home customers in South Africa and Botswana.

What does the Buddie Zone offer?

Touch Messaging

  • An exclusive service that lets you share special pre-set messages with your loved ones in South Africa any time you wish for FREE.
  • You can send greetings, blessings or even words of encouragement.
  • For example, you can send a “Good Morning” or a “Happy Birthday, I wish I was there” message wherever and whenever.

Call Me Backs

  • Allows you to send FREE Call Me Backs to Call Home lines in South Africa.
  • You can reach out to loved ones in South Africa whenever you need to – even if you are out of airtime!
  • Please note that you cannot send to other South African networks and these include Vodacom, Virgin Mobile, 8ta, CellC and MTN.

Send Home Airtime

  • Through Buddie Zone, you will be able to purchase our international airtime voucher called “Send Home” airtime, use it to top-up on your Call Home line and then transfer the airtime directly into an Econet pre-paid number of your choice – instantly and at no additional cost.
  • It is also available across Europe, America, Canada, and the UK via ezetop, or via the ezetop website www.ezetop.com.
  • The airtime will be received into your Send Home wallet via the Buddie Zone and can either be used as airtime or transferred to friends. For Zimbabweans living in South Africa, this line is the best deal around. They will need to buy and register the Econet Call Home sim card. From there, they should recharge with the Econet Send Home airtime and they are ready to go.

How Do I send a Touch Message using the Buddie Zone Service?

  1. Dial *146*100# >> Select Option 1-Touch >> Select the Touch Message Option they want >> Enter the SA Call Home customer number E.g. 27841234567 and wait for a confirmation message to pop-up on their screen. Daily limit is 5.

How do I send a Call Me Back using the Buddie Zone Service?

How do I redeem a Send Home Airtime voucher?

  1. Dial *146*100# >> Select Option 3- Send Home Airtime >> Select Option 2- Redeem Send Home Voucher >> Enter your 17 digit Send Home Airtime Voucher Recharge Pin and wait for a confirmation message.

I am failing to redeem a Send Home Airtime voucher that was sent to me.

  1. You need to have received a 17 digit recharge pin from your Call Home Buddie. Please take note of the exact network response you are receiving when you try to recharge their account.
  2. Remember the USSD code times-out after 90seconds for security reasons hence you will need to be fast when using the service.
  3. Please check their wallet balance to verify that the voucher did not go through and also verify the recharge pin from the person that sent the airtime.
  4. If all else fails, please call 111 or 119 or visit the nearest Econet shop for assistance.

How do I load my Send Home airtime from my wallet to my main account?

  1. Dial *146*100# >> Select Option 3- Send Home Airtime >> Select Option 4- Load Airtime >> enter the USD$ amount to be loaded (no “$” “,”-just the numerical value)and wait for a confirmation message.

How do I confirm the current Rand/USD$ exchange rate using the Buddie Zone service?

How do I check the transactions I have been making on my Buddie Zone account?

The Call Home Simcard is available at any CellC outlet for ZAR 0.99 each.

How much will I be charged for sending or receiving the airtime?

During the transfer, the Rand airtime will be converted to US dollars using the foreign currency exchange rate for that day and you will not incur any additional costs when sending the airtime and the recipient will also not be charged when redeeming or receiving the airtime.

How do I receive airtime using the Buddie Zone service from a loved one in South Africa?

Purchasers of vouchers in South Africa have two options for sending the vouchers back to Econet Zimbabwe customers which include;

  • Using the traditional method of conveying the recharge key numbers to the receiver through SMS or voice-call.
  • Using the Send Home airtime wallet and airtime transfer service available on Econet Call Home lines via the “Call Home Zone” by simply dialling *133*326638#.

Can I roam within Zimbabwe using my Econet Call home Sim card?

At the moment, the Call Home Sim card only works within South Africa.

Whilst on roaming, can I recharge my Econet line using the Buddie Zone service?

  • Yes, roaming EWZ customers can top up using SEND HOME/Ezetop airtime by accessing their Buddie Zone menu.
  • However, due to the fact they will be in a foreign country using a foreign network, they might face challenges when trying to redeem their vouchers or top-up their accounts.
  • It is therefore advised that they purchase their airtime in advance or have it transferred to them via 31117 from relatives back home in Zimbabwe or through direct top-ups at any Econet Shops.
