What is CarryMeHome?

  • It is a service that ensures that your loved ones are safely returned to their home country from in the unfortunate event of their passing on whilst in South Africa or Lesotho.
  • It offers Repatriation and Death benefit polices (CarryMeHome and CarryMeHome Plus).
  • Only available to Econet Call Home customers.

What is repatriation?

It is the transportation of human remains to their home country in the unfortunate event of a death.

How do I register for CarryMeHome?

  1. Go to http://www.econetwireless.co.za

Select Home Land >> Zimbabwe, Select CarryMeHome >> Register

  1. A screen displaying the terms and conditions of the policy options as well as the general terms and conditions for the service will pop up on the page.
  2. Carefully read and understand the terms and conditions of the service before you tick on the box next to “I have read and accept the terms and conditions”.
  3. Click on ‘Continue’ and complete the fields on the form before selecting the ‘Register’ button.
  4. Once registration is completed, a copy of your new CarryMeHome policy will be available to print or download.
  5. After registration, you must pay the monthly premium for their policy to become effective.
  6. Payment is done through Buddie Zone using Econet SEND HOME Airtime available at Shoprite, Checkers and U-Save stores throughout South Africa.

What is the CarryMeHome Policy?

  • Repatriation of human remains of the insured to an address or funeral parlor of choice in Zimbabwe or Lesotho.
  • Includes the transportation of 2 mourners to Zimbabwe or Lesotho. (Transportation costs to return to South Africa are on the mourner’s own account).
  • The premium for this policy is R20.00 per month.

What are the requirements needed to register for the CarryMeHome Policy?

In order to qualify for CarryMeHome, applicants must meet the following criteria;

  • Econet Call Home number.
  • Must be resident in South Africa.
  • Over the age of 18 years.
  • Must be 65 years or younger.
  • Must be in possession of a valid South African or Zimbabwean or Lesotho Identity document.

What is the CarryMeHome plus Policy?

  • Repatriation of human remains of the insured to an address or funeral parlor of choice in Zimbabwe or Lesotho.
  • Includes the transportation of 2 mourners to Zimbabwe or Lesotho. (Transportation costs to return to South Africa are on the mourner’s own account
  • Also includes ZAR 10 000 cash payment that is nominated to a beneficiary in South Africa.
  • The premium for this policy is R40.00 per month.

What are the requirements needed to register for CarryMeHome Plus?

In order to qualify for CarryMeHome Plus, applicants must meet the following requirements;

  • Econet Call Home number.
  • A resident in South Africa.
  • Above 18 years old.
  • Must be 65 years or younger.
  • Must be in possession of a valid South African AND Zimbabwean or Lesotho Identity document.
  • Must nominate a beneficiary who will receive the cash payment.
  • The beneficiary must;
    • Be over the age of 18
    • Be in possession of a valid South African Identity document
    • Have a South African bank account

How do I pay the premiums for the CarryMeHome policies?

  • You will make monthly payments using Send Home airtime.
  • Dial *133*326638# on your phone and select Send Home Airtime >> Pay for your premium. You will have to make sure that you have enough credit to cover your monthly premium.

How many people can I cover when registered for either of the two policies?

  • One person per line.
  • The insurance benefit falls away when you reach 75 years.

Can I switch between policies?

  • No, you cannot change your policy and you cannot also increase or decrease your monthly premiums.

Is it possible for me to check how much I have contributed to my policy?

Yes. Using your policy number given to you upon registration, you will be able to download your statement from http://www.econetwireless.co.zaand check your contributions.

What happens if I decide to cancel my policy?

Your account will be terminated but your monthly contributions will not be refunded.

What happens if I miss/skip payment for my monthly contributions?

  • You are given a grace period to pay your premiums.
  • Grace period is only given for missing one month’s premium which is 30 days.

What will happen if I pass on during a time when I have not paid my premiums?

If the policy is still active, the outstanding premium must be paid before the policy can be honoured.

What happens to my policy if I change my Simcard, or lose my phone?

  • The policy will not be affected as it is linked to your mobile number.
  • All you need to do is remember your mobile number.

Am I covered by the CarryMeHome policy if I am terminally ill?

Yes, you are covered but subject to the 6 month waiting period for death by natural causes.

What happens when I die a day after I have just paid my first monthly premium?

  • No claim will be paid if death due to natural causes occurs within six months of the commencement date.
  • A claim will not be paid in the case that you pass on within six months after subscribing to your policy.
  • The six months waiting period will not be valid if you pass on due to unnatural causes (e.g. accidents).
  • No claim will be settled for death due to suicide within the first 24 months.

What happens to my CarryMeHome policy if I permanently/temporarily return to my home country (Zimbabwe/Lesotho)?

  • If you return to your home country and fail to continue paying your monthly contributions, your account will be terminated.
  • If you permanently return to your home country, you can inform us and we will cancel your CarryMeHome policy.

If I relocate back to Zimbabwe, am I covered if anything happens to me whilst I am in the country?

No, your CarryMeHome policy will be cancelled if your death occurs outside of South Africa as you are only covered whilst within the SA borders.

Am I covered by my CarryMeHome policy if I die as a result of negligence or even suicide?

  • Provided your policy is active, yes we will honor the policy. However, should the subscriber have been participating in an illegal act which resulted in death, no claim will be paid out to the beneficiary.

Will my family receive any continuous receiving payments when I have passed on?

  • The policy is only for repatriation services and a possible death benefit – there are NO recurring payments.

Will my human remains be transported back to my home country by road or air and where will they be delivered to?

  • Your body will be sent by road.
  • When you register you nominate the nearest mortuary to your home, and we will repatriate your body to the nominated mortuary
